範例
If he were not ill he would attend the meeting.
As it is, he stays at home.
彼が病氣でなければ會に出るのである。
併し病氣であるから家に居る。

解説
As it is (was)......
    =As things are (were).
    =As matters stand (stood).
      斯る事態にて。
   斯う云ふ次第で。
  故に
   (But) as it is (was) not the case.
   (併し)事実さうで無いから。
  と解す可し。
 此 Clause は常に Sentence の初に在りて目前の状態を emphasize し、且つ次の事を云はむとする理由として前の事を反復するものなり。例へば
   If he were not ill he would attend the meeting.
      As it is,
=(a)|as things are,        |
    |As matters stand,     |he stays at home.
=(b)  As it is not the case,|
=(c)  As he is ill,         |
      彼が病氣で無ければ其會に出るのである。
 (a)さう云ふ次第で               |
 (b)(併し)さう(=健全)で無いから|彼は内に居る。
 (c)(併し)病氣で有るから     |
の如く As it is は (c) (But) as he is ill(病氣で有るから)に當るものにして場合に依り、現在とも過去ともなる外には其受く可き Clause の何たるを問はず、常に As it is (was) と云ふ一定の形式を以て前の Sentence を代表するものなり。而てこの Clause の前には上掲の如き Subjunctive の Sentence か又はそれと同樣假定の意の Sentence 有るを常とす。
 次に As it is を用ひずして前の語を其儘反復せる一例を示す可し。
