57. in duty / honour / courtesy bound to...

基本表現と解説

• I am in duty bound to stand by him. 「義務上、彼を助けねばならない」
• I am in honour bound to stand by him. 「名誉上、彼を助けねばならない」
• I am in courtesy bound to stand by him. 「礼儀上、彼を助けねばならない」

to be bound to... は「……しなければならない」「……する義務がある」の意味。次のような表現もある。

• It is my bounded duty to stand by him. 「是非とも彼を助けねばならない」
