(a) 死者に仕ふる最善の道は生者の爲に生くるに在り。
(b) 美は善よりも高尚なり、美は其中に善を含めば也。

解説
The + Adjective の形は
(a) Plural Common Noun.
(b) Abstract Noun.
の意に用ひらる。即ち
(a) The dead = the dead persons = 死せる人々。
    The living = the living persons = 生ける人々。
(b) The true = truth = 眞。
　　The good = goodness = 善。
　　The beautiful = beauty = 美。
等の如し。

1.  The time which the afflicted, the sick, and the needy, left him he gave to work.

    彼は難義の人、病める人、貧しき人を助けてその上餘つた時間を仕事に捧げた。
    time は gave の object なり。
2.  From childhood, let us accustom ourselves to being useful to the sick and the infirm.
