I

To collect (gather) one's thoughts.

己の思想、感覺、能力等を集む。
I & II
= To recover oneself from surprise, embarrassment, fear, or a disconcerted or distracted state; to gather together or gain command over one's scattered thoughts, feelings, emotions or energies; to compose oneself.
心を落着ける、氣を鎭める、騒ぐ胸を鎭める、亂るゝ心を押鎭める。
I と II は全く同義にして I to collect oneself の -self は一種の Pronoun の如き役目をなし、II のwits, ideas, senses, feelings, emotions, faculties, thoughts 等に相當するものなり。
「己（の思想、感覺、能力等）を集む」とは狼狽して度を失ひたる様が、譬へば人の心の平均を失ひ中心を離れて四散するが如く、而て心の落着き我にかへりたるは一旦離散せる心を再び捨収せるが如き觀あるを以てなり。
「考を纏める」「考が纏らぬ」「心が散る」などの後を思ひ合す可し。

比較
To collect (gather) onself (up or together).
= To collect and dispose one's powers for a great effort, as a beast crouches preparatory to a leap.
獣が跳ばむとする時の如く四肢に力を入れて身構へす。
