35. 現在分詞 / 過去分詞 + as it was / as it did

基本表現と解説
  • Coming out, as it did, at such a time, his work attracted much attention.「実際、そのような時期に出版されたため、彼の著書は大いに耳目を集めた」

as it did は直前の動詞を反覆し(as it came out)文意を強めたもの。Coming out at such a time, his work attracted much attention. といっても意味はおなじ。同様に

  • Published, as it was, at such a time, his work attracted much attention.

は Published at such a time, his work attracted much attention. とおなじ。

注意:過去分詞が先行する場合は理由・譲歩を示す副詞句になることもある。§39. 参照。
