88. make one's way とそのバリエーション

基本表現と解説

• He made his way by groping. 「手探りで進んでいった」

make one's way は「進む」という熟語だが、make の代わりに別の動詞（feel, fight, elbow, force, pay, plough, wend 等）が用いられ、どのように進んだのかを示す場合がある。

• He groped his way. 「手探りで進んだ」
• I wended my way here and there. 「あちらこちらを歩いた」
• He elbowed his way out. 「（肘で）押し分けるようにして外に出た」
• The vessel was ploughing her way at full speed. 「船は全速力で進んだ」
