基本表現と解説

• Far be it from me to say anything unpleasant. 「不快なことをいうつもりは毛頭ない」

願望の仮定法から派生した形で、On no account would I say anything unpleasant. とか It is not my wish to say anything unpleasant. とおなじ意味。to 不定詞の代わりに名詞を用いて、たとえば Far from me the intention of describing the siege of Orenbourg. 「オレンブルグの包囲攻撃について記述する気は毛頭ない」のように言うこともできる。
