- I saw him for the first time. 「はじめて彼に会った」
- I saw him for the second time. 「ふたたび彼に会った」
- I saw him for the last time. 「それを最後に彼とは二度と会っていない」
- I saw him for the first time in my life. 「生まれてはじめて彼に会った」
- I saw him for the first time and the last. 「後にも先にもただ一度だけ彼に会った」
訳文は前後の関係により、「はじめて（ふたたび、等）……した」としてもいいし、「……したが、それがはじめて（二度目、等）だった」としてもよい。
