基本表現と解説
- If ever eyes spoke, hers did very plainly. 「目がものを言うなら、彼女の目はじつに明瞭にものを言った」
- If ever a man was glad, I was that man. 「人が喜んだことがあったとすれば、わたしこそその人だった」
「もし……だとすれば、……こそその典型例である」という言い方。 ever, any, anyone, anything 等、強意を示す語が付随する。
