172. if I remember aright

基本表現と解説

• The man is sixty, if I remember aright. 「わたしの記憶が確かなら彼は六十だ」
• The man is sixty, if I am not mistaken. 「わたしが間違っていなければ彼は六十だ」

「わたしの記憶が確かなら」とは言っても、どちらかというと記憶の正しさを主張する言い廻し。ほかにも次のような形がある。

• if I remember right(ly)
• if my memory serves me right
• if I err not greatly
• if I am not much mistaken
• unless I greatly mistake
• if I am rightly informed
• if I am correctly informed
