解説
I の as best は II の as well as の well が best となり、後の as が省略されたるものなり、これ強き語(best の如き)を用ひたる時には其影響として次の語は省かるゝ傾向有るに因る。
猶ほ as best one can (may, etc.) の形は極めて困難なること、又は不可能なる事を爲さむとする時に用ひられ「出來ねど及ぶ限り」の意を含む。
