84. 同族目的語 (2)
- He swore a dreadful oath. 「彼はおそろしく罵った」
- He fought his last battle. 「彼は最後の戦いをたたかった」
- He struck a fatal blow. 「彼は致命的打撃を与えた」
動詞と意義はおなじだが、形がちがう目的語が用いられるケース。

The darkness was intense. And, as it was blowing great guns from the sea, and pouring with rain, the noises of the storm effectually concealed all others.

漆黒の闇だった。しかも海からは風が吹き荒れ、雨は土砂降り。嵐の音でほかの音はまったく聞こえなかった。
註 to blow great guns は「強風、暴風が吹く」という意味の成句。to blow guns ともいう。
