基本表現と解説

• He seldom speaks, but when he does speak, he always speaks to the purpose. 「滅多にしゃべらないが、しゃべるとなるといつも適切な話し方をする」

この do は If you speak at all の at all 「いやしくも」のようなニュアンスを持つ。
