- Take heed lest it prove harmful to you. 「あなたの害にならないよう注意しなさい」
- Take heed lest it may prove harmful to you.
- Take heed lest it should prove harmful to you.
この lest は「望ましくないことが起きないように」「……しないように」の意味。最初の仮定法を用いた形はやや古く典雅な印象。二番目の形は現在には may を用い、過去には might を用いる。三番目の形においては現在・過去とも should を用いる。
