224. to be one's own master / mistress

基本表現と解説

• She is her own mistress. 「彼女は人の支配を受けない」

「他人の干渉を受けず、自分の意のままにできる」という意味。to be master of oneself あるいは to be mistress of oneself という形もある。ただしこのこちらは to have entire self-control とか not to be governed by passion 「情に流されず、自制心がある」の意味で用いられることもある。
