- You may as well give up the attempt.
この構文は You may as well give it up as not. 「辞めてもよし、辞めずともよし」の as not が省かれて「辞めてもよし」という肯定の意味となり、さらに as の意が失せて You may give it up. 「辞めてよい」となり、さらに進んで You had better give it up. 「辞めたほうがいい」という積極的な強い意味になることがある。
