196. to think

基本表現と解説

• To think that it should come to this! 「よもやこうなろうとは！」
• Foolish fellow! to suppose that it could be kept concealed! 「これが知れずにいると思うとは愚かなやつだ」

感嘆を示す不定詞の用法。この用法に使われる動詞は think, imagine, dream, suppose などに限られる。さらに to think とか to imagine の部分が省略されて That it should come to this! のようになることもある。
